Why Trail Ride for the Cure?
In 2006, a fellow Buffalo Girl member, Rosalie Beiting, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She concluded her treatments in 2007 and is yet another courageous survivor of this disease. Rosalie was no stranger to this disease prior to being diagnosed herself. In May 2001, Karen Beiting, a fellow horse woman and ironically, Rosalie's daughter-in-law, lost her battle with Breast Cancer at the young age of 36. It was then we knew we needed to do something to help. On October 3, 2003 "Trail Ride for the Cure" was born. The Buffalo Girls have had other members experience the effects of breast cancer, either directly or indirectly, throughout the years as well. Donna Bertlein, mother of another member is now a 6 year survivor!
In honor of Karen, Rosalie, Donna and the courage of many other friends and family, we have organized Trail Ride for the Cure®. TRFTC is hosted annually on the first Saturday in October. Through our love of horses and our friendships, old and new, we have organized this ride to raise funds for research, equipment and counseling services for not only those who are sick, but also to celebrate the survivors and their families.
We're inviting our friends and family, and your friends and family to join in the Breast Cancer Crusade. Proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Greater Cincinnati. To date, we have donated $67,000 to Komen! But we're not going to stop there. We're going to keep raising awareness and funding until breast cancer is no longer a household word!
